Inside an ancient Russian city, the World Heritage site of Durban on the coast of the Caspian Sea has been hiding a mysterious building. Scientists may have discovered one of the oldest Christian churches in the world by using muon radiography to scan a subterranean building buried deep in the ancient Russian city. Excavating could endanger the UNESCO site, so archaeologists have not been able to fully access the structure. Instead, researchers from the Russian Academy of Sciences, Skobeltsyn Institute of Nuclear Physics, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Dagestan State University harnessed a non-invasive technique — muon radiography — to produce an image of the buried building. We tell you the full story about this site in our programs “Around the World.”
Every day of our life we communicate with other people. Sometimes we discuss things, sometimes we argue and quarrel. Damir Kramaric from Croatia gives us fresh perspectives about socialization in a continuation of his program series, “Conflict Resolution.” We hope that this information can be helpful for you, our listeners, opening fresh perspectives in relationships.
We continue to study the Old Testament and this time we discuss the Book of Numbers and the first Passover in the wilderness. Numbers, chapter 9, marks the beginning of the second year of the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. This chapter tells what the children of Israel should do to stay committed to the Lord and how they could know God was with them. How do we show our Father today that we are committed to Him, and how does He let us know He is with us?
In our series of segments about hymns we continue to study and listen to Christian hymns and the authors behind wonderful a Capella compositions thanks to our great friend and missionary in many countries, Graham McKay, and his immense expertise in this subject. “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Galatians 6:14) is in harmony with the a Capella song “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross” by Fanny Crosby. She was often asked by composers to put familiar words to a new tune. Sometimes she would listen to the tune and say, “That tune says to me…” It is amazing how often she found a perfect fit. That happened with this great song about the cross. Her friend William Doane made such a request and she came through. The central idea is the cross and our goal is to stay near it.
“Son of God.” Jesus declared that He himself will be the judge who decides where people spend eternity. Such statements drew real anger from His enemies but Jesus never backed down on His words; he always insisted that He has the right to judge humanity because He is the Son of God as John 20:31 says. We continue our narration about the life and deeds of Jesus Christ in a program, “In His Name.”
We have a number of projects under development that might be interesting to you. Come and download numerous Christian books, listen to our programs, see several video lessons based on Russian Christian art, take a look at pictures of beautiful Alaska, the home of our first radio station, KNLS.
