We talk about dx-ing, emergency broadcasting, ham radio and why short-wave spectrum remains densely populated with broadcasters even with the development of Internet and satellite communication in our programming “That “old” radio”.
We continue our study of Old Testament. Ecclesiastes is a difficult book, and you should not be misled by its title, which comes from the Greek word for church. The writer, whom we know by his Hebrew name Qoheleth, is not very ecclesiastical. He rejects out of hand easy answers to the purpose of life, even religious answers. But the questions that the author of the book raises are very much modern in our days – about meaning, monotony, destiny, justice, nostalgia, and the future. It is his ability to give utterance to a deep and universal need, a need to know the meaning of life, that makes this book enduringly attractive. And we will discuss all verses for our listeners.
Many great teachers have lived but none like Jesus of Nazareth. Truthfully spoke the men who had been sent to take him when they returned: “Never man spoke like this man.” At the close of many of his lessons we read, “The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught as one having authority and not as the scribes.” We continue the study of life and teaching of Christ in continuation of programs “Son of God.”
Among the letters of Paul, 1 and 2 Corinthians are perhaps most notable for their practical content and personal style. But what was the city of Corinth at that time? Renowned for its metallurgist, who specialized in bronze work and for its sponsorship of the biennial Isthmian games, which were second to popularity and prestige only to those of Olympia, the city rapidly attracted a variety of new residents, creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere dominated by economic sanctification and cultural diversity. We talk about this great city in the program “Book of Books”.
