September is a very important month for Brazil. That’s because, on the 7th, Brazil’s independence is celebrated. As in the United States, it is a very symbolic and relevant date. In addition, on the same date, the centenary of Radio in Brazil will be celebrated.
On September 7, 1922, there was the first radio broadcast in Brazil on the occasion of the centenary of Independence. President Epitácio Pessoa’s speech was broadcast through an antenna installed on Corcovado Hill and reached receivers in Niterói, Petrópolis and São Paulo. Brazilian radio was born there, with Rádio Sociedade do Rio de Janeiro, founded by Edgar Roquette-Pinto.” (www.camara.leg.com.br).
To commemorate this important milestone, throughout the month of September, we will have small programs telling more about this important moment in the history of Brazil. Also, in the centenary week, a series of interviews with Marcos Sacramento, broadcaster and announcer, talking about the advances of radio during this period, as well as its impacts and reach.
In this series of interviews we will feature Forrest Hunter Gates sharing about the work of evangelism on radio from 1987 to 1992 and on TV from 1998 to 2012.
During the month of August we sent 11 QSL cards and 5 correspondence courses, of which we highlight the QSL cards sent to Juan Carlos Pérez from the city of Valladolid Spain and Marcelo Cornachionin – Buenos Aires – Argentina.
We also received a contact from Alexandre Moreira, São Paulo, Brazil. He was very happy and interested in knowing more about God’s truth. He asked for information about the Bible, about Radio and the history of World Christian Broadcasting. He is now attending a church near his home.
We are in the final part of the creation of our app for Android and IOS that will be launched God willing in October on the 4th anniversary of broadcasts in Portuguese.
God bless you all
