The hymn, “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” by Isaac Watts, was written in 1715. The author is universally known as “The Father of English Hymnody.” He had a passion for improving congregational singing. He wrote many paraphrased versions of the psalms. Watts believed that writers should be free to express praise and devotion to God in their own words. These texts became known as “Hymn of Human Composure.” He was considered a revolutionary churchman for his time. In this series of segments we continue to study and listen to Christian hymns and authors behind wonderful a Capella thanks to our great friend, missionary in many countries Graham McKay, and his immense expertise in this subject.
Recently we visited a Navajo Indian Reservation. We give you our firsthand impression about life and Navajo traditional religions in this native American tribe in a program, “Traveling Through America.” While there we learned about the Navajo “code talkers” whose expertise played a vital part in WW II. One military signal officer said, “Were it not for the Navajos, the Marines would never have taken Iwo Jima.” Often we associate natives with paganism but is there a place for Christian belief?
“What should I do to be saved?” Often listeners ask this core question of their spiritual lives. We are fully aware of the responsibility as we direct your attention in the study of this great question. In our programming we hope to give listeners all the Bible has to say on this question and to point their minds to enough of the teaching of the Bible that will assist them in such an understanding of the question that they will be able to take their own Bibles and study them by themselves.
“Son of God.” Jesus declared that He himself will be the judge who decides where people spend eternity. Such statements drew real anger from His enemies but Jesus never backed down on His words; he always insisted that He has the right to judge humanity because He is the Son of God as it says in Book of John 20:31. We continue our narration about the life and deeds of Jesus Christ in a program, “In His name.”
Moses’ story is told in the Book of Exodus, but it starts in Genesis with the story of Abraham and his family with whom God makes a covenant. Generations later the Biblical Moses draws the extended family together in the form of a nation with a structure and code of law given to him on Mount Sinai. We continue to study the Old Testament in the series, “Book of Books.”
We have a number of projects under development that might be interesting to you. Come and download numerous Christian books, listen to our programs, see several video lessons based on Russian Christian art, take a look at pictures of beautiful Alaska, the home of our first radio station, KNLS.
Thanks for reading and for listening!!
