June marks the beginning of the summer season. Fruits crowd the trees. New programming also fill the radio waves of World Christian Broadcasting (WCB) to our listeners. “Let’s Sing” is a new series produced by Shumei. Christian stories and hymns are paired together to introduce Christian faith, attitude, and services.
For example, Mr. and Mrs. Lin Zhaocheng believe every handicapped child is precious in God’s creation. God intends that he or she live the fullest life and enjoy love and opportunity just as everyone else. This Christian couple formed a foundation to make this belief materialized in the lives of many handicapped children whom God sent to them. As we told the story, the story was followed by a hymn, “Heart of an Angel,” to give listeners a few minutes to digest the inspiration from the Lins and perhaps to imagine further what this could mean in their own lives.
In another program, Mr. Roy Shannon raised a distinguished son and adopted three Chinese girls. His story was featured around Father’s Day along with other stories and hymns.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. Jesse had been enjoying a successful career in the finance department of Nissan Corporation until about two years ago when she was diagnosed to have ALS. In the summer of 2020, as Jesse is at the stage of gradually losing the ability to speak, our producer, Salina Ho, tried to record her voice for her Jesse’s only child, so he can repeatedly listen to his Mom’s legacy and her love for him in years to come. A series of Jesse’ stories is being produced, witnessing how God has been walking with her all along her struggles against ALS and proclaiming God’s faithfulness as she puts her trust in him. This universal truth experienced by Jesse is becoming better understood all the time by so many others whose lives are being affected now by Covid-19. Consequently, Salina produced in June several programs encouraging trust in God in times of atrocity.
Listeners are most precious to us. They are whom we serve. They are our joy. Sometimes God encourages our devotion and perseverance with responses from listeners. From April to June many pieces of correspondence that came from China addressed listeners’ concern about our health and safety. Their heart-warming notes strengthen our faith and stimulate our dedication.
One week ago two large bags loaded with masks arrived from a listener in China who wants to help protect the lives of American friends. After discussion among staff members in Franklin along with the good will of this listeners, these hundreds of masks are being used now by the Vanderbilt Hospital Covid-19 Team of doctors, nurses, staff, and members of patients’ families. The rippling effect of God’s love affects more people than anyone could have imagined. Here at WCB, we are thrilled most to learn about what God alone can do, particularly through our listeners.
Our Bible reading project is in its final preparation stage. In order for the word of God to be received well, introductions and explanations are being constructed. As we are finalizing the Bible Reading, we appeal for your prayers. May God prepare hearts that are eager to listen to his word. May God also prepare for this project Christian friends and volunteer co-workers who would devote their time to introduce this Bible Reading service through their personal networks to Chinese speaking people around the world.
