Edward and Sharon Short celebrate 80 Years Birthday

On November 24, a special birthday party was held to honor Edward and Sharon Short for their 80 years of age and numerous blessings that their lives have yielded. Both of them met at Lipscomb University and decided that they wanted to serve the Lord together for the Chinese people. They served the Chinese in Taiwan for thirteen years and the Chinese worldwide through World Christian Broadcasting for thirty-five years. Edward has been serving as one of the elders at Middle Tennessee Chinese Church of Christ for twenty years.

All of Edward and Sharon’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, together with American and Chinese friends, gathered at the Natchez Trace Church of Christ, where the Chinese congregation meets on Sunday afternoons. A full house of people enjoyed sharing and hearing stories of how Edward and Sharon touched their lives. Andy Baker, our president, also spoke on our behalf about Edward’s contribution to WCB. For those who work with the Chinese Language Service, Edward’s thirty-five years of serve at WCB has laid a firm foundation for the Chinese Language Service. Edward is a mentor, a professional radio evangelist, and a Christian servant.  Edward’s numerous writings in Mandarin Chinese, recordings, syndicated radio programs, and his productions by other Chinese Christians ministries are still in service to Chinese listeners via our daily Chinese broadcast. The Chinese website Edward set up still functions well and serves even more website visitors now. Edward and Sharon are one of the most genuine Christian servants in the Kingdom of God. It is our prayer that they will continue serving more people, sometimes in ways that only God knows.

Shumei Travels

Shumei needs to spend more time with her aging mother and visiting with her three daughters, so beginning this month Shumei will move from full-time work to part-time. She is currently traveling in Asia, visiting her mother, siblings, friends, and listeners. Even while traveling, Shumei is still able to work and contribute to our daily broadcast. Her visit to various Chinese communities strengthens the faith of sisters in Christ and deepens the friendship in Jesus with them as well. We truly appreciate Shumei and her servant attitude.

Christmas Programs in December

December always gives us a good opportunity to reach out to more listeners around the world because of Christmas. We thank God for making this joyful memorial tradition now a worldwide phenomenon. Even in China where Christmas is not widely celebrated, many Chinese citizens and businesses rely on celebration around the world to make their living. In 2022, China exported about 10 billion dollars’ worth of Christmas trees and decorations abroad. 3.17 billion dollars was exported to the U.S., which is 89.8% of the total export of Christmas decorations from China in that year. Please pray for our programs reaching more people in China and worldwide for God.

The most important things about Jesus will be introduced in our daily programs this month. Therefore, we’ll talk about the prophecies of a Savior, the preparations of the coming of Jesus Christ, and the preparation of Jesus’ ministry.  We’ll also discuss the significant works of Jesus, His death and resurrection, followed by the works of His immediate disciples. Then, we’ll discuss the Holy Spirit’s guidance to His church and her growth in history, His second coming, etc. These programs, with God’s help, will teach listeners about God’s salvation and help them build faith in Jesus in their heart. As a gift for Christmas, a free bi-lingual New Testament Bible will be given to anyone who requests one. Please pray for our daily preparation of programs.

As we close the December version of What’s Going On in 2024, we can’t help but thank God for you. Your reading of our works, progress, prayer, and working with us through your prayers and support have enabled this ministry to be on the air for more than forty years. With God’s will, we pray that we’ll on the air until Christ returns. Together, we bring more people to God through Jesus. Please continue praying for new volunteers to help with our program production and donors too. We also pray for God’s rich blessings to you and your family in every way. May you have a fruitful 2025.
