I sat down to write this article for our monthly website update that we call “What’s Going On.” I wasn’t sure what to write about. I wondered to myself, what is going on?! I looked outside the window, and it was raining. I wouldn’t go as far as dancing in the rain, but I do like the rain. I grew up in a desert area where we didn’t’ get much rain. I noticed the grass on my lawn was lush and green – thank you, rain… and thank you, Lord!
John Updike said, “Rain is grace. Rain is the sky descending to the earth. Without rain, there would be no life.” He is right. Have you stopped to think about and to appreciate rain? Rain is simple, yet very powerful. There’s nothing we can do to bring the rain; there’s nothing we can do to stop the rain. The Bible likens the Word of God to rain:
“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10,11)
Our newest program is called “A Word from the Word.” So far, we’ve recorded 120 episodes, 2-3 minutes each. Every episode presents a verse from the Bible, a thought, and perhaps a question or a word of encouragement. In my spirit’s eye, I visualize these drops of rain falling on the dry, thirsty soil. Most of the time, we don’t know who would be listening to our programs and what their needs might be, but we know for sure that the Word of God will reach the ends of the earth and will accomplish His will.
We pray that the Lord may send the early rain and the late rain… and, yes, let it rain!
