In this age of speed, where everything is expected to be fast, sometimes people do not have time to listen to a full hour of radio programming. A recent statistic showed that a listener typically tunes in for about 15 minutes. That is one of the reasons we use the magazine format, which includes a number of different short segments on various topics. Even if someone tunes in mid-hour, they will pick up right away. Every quarter of the hour has the right mix of segments, including a biblical message.
We added several segments, part of the new series “A Thought in a Minute.” As you can tell from the title, it is a short segment, which presents one specific spiritual truth. It could be a verse to show God’s love, a parable Jesus taught to drive home a point, or perhaps a question to let the listeners ponder things in their own lives.
Sometimes we think that in order to bring people to Jesus, we have to hit them on the head with multiple-points alliterated sermons, spiced up with Greek and Hebrew! Truth of the matter is, a word or two can go a long way. We need to remind ourselves that we’re sowing seeds, not throwing stones. It is the powerful Word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit that change people from the inside out.
“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55: 10-11)
We continue to receive feedback from listeners all over the world – praise the Lord!
