Permit me to begin with this quote, “to be a rich person is not about what we have in our bank account, but what we have in our hearts.” Suppose you are living in a world with or without plenty. You can share with or without plenty. God, who created the Heavens and Earth, has been involved in the sharing business. He shared the garden of Eden with Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:15), God shares His glory with us (John 11:3-4, Romans 3:23), He shares His grace with us (Exodus 34:6), God shares the world He created with us (Genesis 1:1-31 – the rain, the air we breathe, the snow, the sun and moon, the green vegetables and the vast land and water mass,) God shared his one only son (John 1:1-3, 3:16), God shared His image and likeness with us (Genesis 1:26).
Below is a picture of two children from somewhere in the African continent. I hope these children convict us that sharing does not mean giving from our abundance. These children grew out of poverty and lived through poverty most of their lives. These siblings demonstrate the power of sharing out of scarcity as the older sibling shares water with the younger ones.
Please look at this photo carefully and see what comes to mind. These children probably live in a poor, dry land, probably with the scarcity of food, money, jobs, and a challenging terrain to raise children with the best education and vocation. That does not deter these children from sharing water (which many of us take for granted). The older sibling is taking time to make sure the younger one is sipping carefully to avoid waste, and it takes patience to hold the big jar with a small hand and keeps feeding slowly.
This photo presents these two children as examples to the rest of us. Would you please take time to think over this nature of generosity and start sharing?
