The country of Ethiopia (the second most populous country in the continent of Africa) has witnessed setbacks in the past few months. On March 10, 2019, Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft belonging to Ethiopian airlines crashed on take-off from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya. All the 157 people in the aircraft from 36 nationalities (8 crew members 149 passengers) died. While Ethiopians continue to mourn from this accident and are working hard to recover from the sad incident, the government of Ethiopia experienced a failed coup in the northern Amhara region on June 22, 2019. The Army Chief of Staff, the region’s president, and the Regional government Advisor were killed among others.
Several listeners to African Pathways programs come from Ethiopia and we are asking for prayers for the people of Ethiopia. We have written to a few of our listeners to our programs from Ethiopia and assured them of our prayers. We will continue to pray for peace and unity, and for the love of God to prevail among the leaders of Ethiopia so that ordinary citizens can live in peace and worship God in Spirit and in Truth.
