Listeners and churches are the heart and center of the ministry that is World Christian Broadcasting (WCB). In our April issue four listeners were the highlights, with actions they took and words they wrote rendering tremendous encouragement to the Chinese Language Service. In this May issue, one church is under the spotlight, the Middle Tennessee Chinese Church of Christ (MTCCC ), a church that enjoys helping WCB with personnel, contribution, programming material, and participation.
Around 11:30 A.M. on April 11th, 21 members participated in our annual Spring fundraiser. They heard Andy Baker reading the mail from listeners and Mr. Dan McVey, from Abilene Christian University, revealing what the people today need to hear. One guest said, “very touching and inspiring!” A small step to participate could be the beginning of a long journey by a touched soul. The impact of their participation is mutual. This was a first time experience for many of them, both culturally and spiritually. And, it’s fun too.
MTCCC is a small church, but not too small to make a contribution. Members and their families add up to seventy people. They pray for WCB, donate regularly and when great challenges occurred, tell their relatives and friends about our website and frequencies, and share testimony about their faith in writing or through interviews which have been a steady source of programs to the Chinese language service.
In an interview, one church member who was a research scientist at Vanderbilt Medical Center explained the idea of God’s Creation and design by illustrating how similar the structure and mechanism of Mitochondrion are to that of a jet engine. He also shared the important role God plays in his life, enabling listeners to see the harmony of science and faith in reality today.
The church contributes so much to WCB partially because they want to pay living tribute to two elders of the church, Enoch and Jeannine Thweatt, and Edward and Sharon Short from whom they learned so much about Jesus. Since Edward Short served as Chinese Senior Producer of WCB since 1989, Edward Ho, Salina Ho, and Shumei Lee joined the Chinese Language Service, all of them members of MTCCC. When Edward retired in January 2019, the entire church joined the WCB staff in a special ceremony at the operation center to honor him. They love their elders who shepherd and love them.
The mission of WCB inspires MTCCC, and the church embraces WCB. Members are grateful that their relatives back home get to listen to the broadcasts from WCB. The church gets involved more. Attending fund raising dinners is one way, helping to meet the needs and challenges of WCB is another.
Many members have given generously. A member took Chinese food to our office in Franklin for the staff to enjoy. In turn, WCB provides church
members an unique avenue of influence on their families in China and a living classroom of world evangelism where MTCCC learns about what God is doing today and grows closer to God’s image of the church. The journey is a humbling experience and full of blessings.
