Please Pray for Cuba
As expressed in the old colloquial proverb, “when it rains, it pours,” the situation in Cuba has quickly gone from bad to worse. On Wednesday, November 6, category 3 Hurricane Rafael made landfall in the southwestern shore known as Playa Majana in Artemisa Province, and cross the Island from north to south in more than two hours, leaving behind much destruction and desolation. Many lost everything they had. Due to extreme poverty, they have no insurance or other ways of protection.
Our team operates from Artemisa Province, and as everyone else there, they have been affected by the storm. I have heard heartbreaking stories of people living in dire conditions, exposed to the elements with scarcity of food and the perils of drinking contaminated water.
Two weeks ago, our efforts to record radio segments for our program in Cuba was hampered by the collapsing of the electrical grid, leaving many in the country without power for days. But this hurricane has left people who live in Artemisa, including our team, without power for many days. They have been told to expect between 20 to 30 days until power be restored, which create another set of problems for more than a million people. It is expected that some areas in the island will have power sooner, but the area affected directly by the hurricane will have to wait longer because of the severe damage they experienced.
Please…
Pray for those that have experienced these incredible losses, that thy do not lose heart and find the hope that only God can give. Especially, pray for our brothers and sisters there.
Pray that God might open doors so that international institutions or individuals provide help for their immediate needs.
Pray that God might move the hearts of people everywhere, including Christians, to help those people to pick themselves up and have hope for the future.
Pray that in the midst of all these calamities, the people there might see the goodness of God through the deeds of His people.
Pray that the trials and tribulations they are going through now help them to look up to God as their main source of hope, and as their “mighty fortress, always ready to help in times of trouble.”
Pray that electricity might be restored sooner than expected so that they can have at least a sense of normalcy, and can continue with their lives.
Pray that electricity might be restored so that we might continue with our work in Cuba. We produce a half-hour program from there every week. We record short segments for both our one-hour and half-hour programs.
Pray for our team that they are able to pick themselves up in the midst of all the challenges they face, personally and professionally.
Pray that they might find a way to continue to produce quality programs that will give all of Cuba hope in Christ in spite of the situation.
