Highlight of September Program
Our program aims to help listeners getting to know God through Christ. One way to do it is to invite fellow Christians who live the life of Christ to tell their stories. A patient of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) contracted the illness when she was thirty years old. She lived twelve years, much longer than the doctor’s expectation. Her middle-class parents exhausted their family resources and energy providing care for her. While their daughter deteriorated to the point that she could not talk, an aunt approached the local church for help in planning the funeral once she passed.
The local church responded in ways beyond the family expectation and imagination. After learning that the patient is a believer, church members take turn visiting her, praying together, sharing the sermon, singing praises, enabling her to worship God with members of the church, though the patient could not participate physically. She enjoyed, laughed, tearing, and worshiping God in spirit. The ALS sister began to live in hope and in ways she did not have in previous years. By using her eyes to control the computer, she wrote two testimonies and lyrics for two hymns. One hymn titled “God, I Praise You With My Eyes”.
Church members seek people who can compose through member’s network. The Lord helped make the connection. Both songs are composed by two different amateur composers and recorded. The patient was able to listen to the works of her own eyes, and soul. Church members reached out to let her story known, hoping people who struggle with depression and other illness can be inspired and encouraged to live differently. The patient, who used to think about suicide, could honor God and build up the faith and love of Lord’s church as a result of Christian brothers and sisters of her local church.
One hour before she passed this life, a six years old boy and his preacher father came to her bed. The boy said to the patient in a laud voice, “you will soon be able to fly in heaven.” She smiled and teared, as she passed away. In the span of four years of continuous visitation, a few members of the patient’s relatives began to attend the church. At least three relatives were baptized in the name of Christ. Her life and illness became meaningful, a vessel for other members of her family to believe in Jesus Christ.
Around the world almost all of ALS patients have lived a difficult life, their loved ones as well in caring for them. They suffer physically, emotionally, mentally, and some spiritually. Most of them stayed unknown to the world. Yet, this patient who asked to stayed anonymous is different. Just like a little flower by the side of the road which was clothed beautifully by God, her life was blessed by God with church visitations, a routine church life, love from sisters and brothers in Christ, witnessing God, the desire and strength to write praises to God, hope for eternal life, etc. All these occurred because the local church lives the life of Jesus in visiting her. We are grateful to have the opportunity to interview a few members of the church who participated the visitation. That is the importance of Jesus. He help humanity to know God, and He helps Christians to see their own future.
What’s New
We start to record a new series of prayers. Sister Huang writes a prayer early in the morning every day. She got up between four and five in the morning, read the Bible. Then, she write her daily prayer, which is full of God’s word she just read. Afterward, she posts it on the church network. It didn’t take long before church members started to realize her prayers are powerful. We will start broadcast Sister Huang’s prayer in our Chinese program in the month of Thanksgiving. We are broadcasting a series of prayer written by Andy Baker, produced by Edward Short. Now we are glad to have a new prayer series, one by a sister in Christ. Please pray that this new series of prayer will be used by God to inspire many listeners to pray in tune with the heart of God.
Brother Gao started to record devotional notes on the Book of Matthew two months ago, now the project is concluded. We started to broadcast this new series on the life of Jesus in late September. Gao has started working on the notes on the Book of Luke, right after Matthew. As of now, he has finished seven chapters. We are very grateful for his dedication to help Chinese people get to know Jesus Christ.
