May has already arrived and with it the time to celebrate the day of one of the most special person in our lives, our mother. On the second Sunday in May, in Brazil we usually celebrate with a good Sunday lunch, children go to their parents’ house, mothers prepare something special to welcome everyone. Grandma’s house is also a good place to celebrate, two or more generations of mothers will be present. There are children who take their mothers to stroll and have lunch in good restaurants, which usually give incredible waiting lines.
However, in this year 2021 the celebrations will not be able to be so festive and with everyone. In Brazil, the rate of contagion by corona virus is still very high, the average death rate is still above 1,000 per day, there were days when we arrived there are 3,800 deaths/day.
Vaccination is still in its 60s. It is a very slow process. We will probably still have a very complicated year in terms of the reflexes caused by the pandemic, be it in the economic aspect (closing of trade), physical (sequels of the illness) and emotional (grief, depression, anxiety).
In these last months we have witnessed so much suffering and so many deaths, that it has made us reflect a lot about the care of God and his love for us. Some people even question where God is in the midst of the great pandemic that is plaguing the world.
Thinking about all this, I recorded with Ivan Gonçalves the theme: The God who Wipes your Tears. We reflect that we will really go through difficult and complicated moments, we will go through pain and loss. But He remains God and He is always willing to comfort us, to welcome and comfort us.
The passage in Revelation 21: 4 says so about this:
“ And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
In addition to this theme with Ivan Gonçalves, our collaborator Allen Dutton Jr recorded a series on The Certainty of our Hope. Questions like: Are we limited to this life? What happens when we die? Is there any hope for the future?
In times of anxiety and fear, we take advantage of this moment to send these messages of relief and hope in our broadcasts. To show our listeners that we have someone to trust, we have a God who loves us and who is ready and with open arms to comfort us, love us and welcome us.
Jesus in his dialogue with Martha after Lazarus’s death said:
“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” (John 11:25-27)
Through these messages, we hope to contribute to the comfort and spirit of each of our listeners, reminding them of the importance of being in Christ during their lives here on earth.
What good news! May we all stand firm in God! Happy Mother’s Day to all.
