How good it is to talk to you listener and collaborators through my “What’s Going On” article every month it is a good way to keep our connection.

We are in February and usually in Brazil it is the month of Carnival. Although it is a national festival that brings aspects of culture, the carnival does not reflect God’s desire for holiness, not even the taste of all Brazilians as often portrayed.

Because it is a traditional holiday and on the calendar it is a holiday, many Christians enjoy the holiday to rest or go to a spiritual retreat. Here in Belo Horizonte, there is the ENJOC National Meeting of Young Christians.

Carnival

Why am I talking about this? The reason is that we are living in a society that has lost its moral and social values, and Carnival is a reflection of this reality.

Formerly the Carnival was celebrated with marches and jokes, but today is known for pornography, parades of Samba school in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, and so many other things that do not bring us closer to Christ.

This month our messages on the program are committed to bringing listeners closer to Christ, remembering God’s desire for a holy and separate life in the pursuit of pleasing Him.

And what have you been doing to get closer to God? The year has begun and we have the opportunity to start well, with challenges that bring us closer to God.

I want to take this moment to say something cool that happened to me in January, I had the opportunity to meet in person one of the first listeners to give us feedback of our program. His name is Danilo Nonato.

Danilo was born in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, a city located in southeastern Brazil. He fell in love with the radio when he was still a boy, and over the years his taste for shortwave radio developed.

Danilo still lives in the city where he was born and there he honed his radio skills working at the Federal College of Ouro Preto – UFOP. Unfortunately in the year 2018 the university radio closed its activities, though there is an expectation it gets back this year. Now Danilo is developing his work in a particular way.

Danilo has also been a shortwave listener for many years and for a few months has contributed to one of the segments of the program called Palavra Alegre DX.

In this segment, Danilo addresses the history of radio, the first radio programs and blockbuster advertisements broadcasted on national radios. We also made some audios talking about the history of some shortwave radios in Europe.

In January I had the privilege of meeting with him and spending an afternoon talking about his history, his challenges and of course, shortwave radio among others.

I believe these moments are very important because they bring people together, create relationships, develop friendships, and consequently are great opportunities to know more about God and his love in person.

January has been a very good month and I know great things God has prepared for us. God bless each of you!

God bless you all!
