Several of our listeners come from Nigeria – a country in West Africa with about 200 million inhabitants. Recently, Nigeria has faced the challenges of contending with the activities of the Fulani Herdsmen. The Fulani Herdsmen are nomadic or semi-nomadic people from the Fulani tribe whose primary occupation is raising of cattle. They move with their cattle to areas of the Savannah and tropical rain forest belt of West Africa where they are able to find green grass and water for their cattle. Fulani Herdsmen are found in Nigeria, Niger, Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroun. These herdsmen carry AK47s with them and recently there have been cases of infightings between Fulani Herdsmen and Christians across many areas of West Africa especially Nigeria.

On Sunday, April 14, 2019, attackers believed to be Fulani Herdsmen killed 17 Christians and seriously wounded 8 Christians who had gathered for celebration after a child dedication ceremony in Konshu-Numa village, Akwanga County in the state of Nasarawa. The mother of the baby was slain and the father who was also shot is in critical condition. The attack took place around 7 p.m. as the Christian community gathered to eat together after the child was dedicated that morning.

Our expression ignited when we discovered that the Fulani Herdsmen travel regularly with shortwave radios as they move from one place to another. We pray they can find African Pathways program from World Christian Broadcasting as they change their radio dials searching for a frequency. We are requesting that you pray for the Fulani Herdsmen.
