“From God-given Talent to Service to Others”
Shumei is gifted in Flower Arrangement. She loves to spend time on this hobby and comes to be intrigued about the beauty in various flowers, trees, leaves, rocks, and wood she finds in Middle Tennessee. She dives into a world of flowers after work and finds joy after she gives a finished arrangement to others as a gift. Shumei produced a program in June encouraging listeners to think about their God-given talent, inspiring them to maximize the benefits of these gifts by her flower arrangement experience. May God’s love embedded in His beautiful creation continue flowing through Shumei’s flower arrangement and radio programs to touch the lives of our listeners. Maybe, through the devotion of our listeners, more lives will be touched by God too.
“ALS Can’t Destroy Love”
An unknown couple of Middle Tennessee surfaces via KNLS to the ears of Chinese listeners worldwide because of Mrs. Maynard’s amazing love. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is notorious in destroying patients’ physical functions. Five years after he was diagnosed with ASL, Mr. Maynard lost all physical functions. Mrs. Maynard, a nurse, made the decision to care for her husband at home by herself. Daily chores began with giving her husband his required medications; massaging his body; extending her fingers into his anus to clean out the waste; sucking sputum; putting on his dentures and glasses; preparing food and grinding his meals before gastric tube feeding; cleaning his urinary tube; elevating and transferring her husband from his bed to the wheelchair for his favorite TV programs or for a TV worship service if it is a Sunday; helping him into bed after lunch for a nap, then repeat all these steps in the afternoon till prayer time before bed.
Mrs. Maynard lived peacefully and joyfully with her ALS husband for twelve years before he died. She loved to see him living in dignity and comfort daily, and looked forward to being with a lively husband in heaven. She considered that the burden in caring for her husband was only ab opportunity to prove that there is nothing impossible with God.
Mrs. Maynard enjoyed her children’s visits, and she lined up their grandchildren to do various care services for grandpa. All four grandchildren have grown up working in the medical field today as a result. Grandma taught them that in life sufferings render us only one choice: what attitude we choose in facing suffering. Depending on God and serving God’s will joyfully was her choice.
Salina Ho learned about their story when she met Mrs. Maynard’s granddaughter-in-law who currently offers counseling service to Chinese ladies. May God change the lives of many Chinese listeners in their experience of suffering as a result of this radio program. Please pray.
While our radio programs introduce to listeners what a wonderful life we may have due to Jesus, we realize there is a deeper need in knowing God in each person. Knowledge about God, His word and deeds, would only generate deeper faith and more thirst in seeking Jesus.
“Inheritance for the Levites”
One program in June highlighted God’s loving wisdom in the event of dividing the land of Canaan among the twelve tribes of Israel. All tribes except for the Levites got their land. The Levites didn’t participate in dividing the land, because God wanted them to live among forty-eight cities throughout the Promised Land in the midst of the eleven tribes. God planned this so that the Levites could teach their fellow citizens about the Laws of God and observe them. What a convenient way of helping all Israelites become familiar with God’s word.
“A Stipulation for the Young Israelite Maid”
Another program illuminates God’s wisdom of love through a statute concerning a young maid who was sold due to the poverty of her father in Exodus 21:7-11. God loves and respects female servants. This law secures the young woman’s survival, dignity, emotional wellbeing, and opportunity to have children. May God use these two programs to establish faith in our listeners.
“Interviews”
We always rejoice when brothers or sisters in Christ come to share their faith and experience with our listeners. With their voices our programs sound livelier, and with their stories our presentations are appealing.
“Joy to be a Christian”
Mrs. Janice Randolph is a joyful Christian. She is thankful and proud that she has become a Christian. She is excited when someone else is excited about confessing their faith in Jesus, which is exactly what she reported about the three young Jewish men rejoicing after finding Jesus in the Jewish Bible and becoming Christians. Janice closed our interview with the hymn “Blessed Assurance.” Her singing is so beautiful, as is her spirit. May Janice’ testimony of faith invite listeners into a personal relationship with Jesus.
“Changing our Mind”
Mr. Yin, a veteran preacher for three decades in Asia, did a telephone interview for our listeners. The interview centered around an important attitude—Changing our mindset. Yin shared a personal story in that his wife reminded him three times about doctor’s warning that he can’t drive after a breathing exam for which he undertook a general anesthesia. Yin felt great the next day and planned to drive to work. He did not even notice that he ignored her wife’s first two warnings until her third reminder which caught his ear. After making the case that habit and mindset are hard to change, Yin challenged listeners to listen to the remarks of those who care about us for cues about the changes others see to be necessary in our lives. May God use Yin’s practical suggestions to the betterment of listener’s lives.
“Bible Reading”
Our main project for 2019, the recording of the Old Testament Bible, is progressing as planned. Shumei and I finished reading and recording the Book of Joshua and Judges in June. Please pray that this audio Bible project brings numerous Chinese listeners back to our Father.
“Website”
Since June 2019 a daily Bible verse feature appears on the front page of our Chinese website. May God use His word to provoke thinking and to increase interest in visitors to our website in studying the word of God. Please pray to God for more listeners and visitors to our radio program and our website.
